Got all the Bulkheads and stringers/webs cut out and dryfit. Now its all taken apart again to have lightening holes cut in and cleats glued to their upper edges. The lightening holes have reduced the weight enough that we will now be able to each bring our own toothbrush, instead of just sharing one. The cleats help to keep the very limber 1/4″ ply flat, and will provide a gluing surface when it comes time to glue down the sole(floor). Yesterday I filleted and taped the centerline web to the bottom plank, and today I will glue the bulkheads to this backbone structure.

Great news yesterday, as I heard back from our newest sponsor Westwind Hardwood.  They have offered to supply us with the rest of the bs1088 marine ply. Had some coverage in our local paper this week http://www.soundernews.com/lifestyle/gabriolans-entered-in-750-mile-race-to-alaska.html . Which makes me remember, I need to get the rest of our media coverage up here somewhere. Maybe a section for media coverage? We’ll see. My web host gave me some tips about photosizing, but its time for me to go to work. I’ll try to put some time in this evening.

So no updates recently, what with the holidays and all, but that doesn’t mean things haven’t been happening. I had to take a diversion from the boat and build a Yellow Cedar, traditional Japanese bathtub. My web host says I need to compress my photos when I post them on the blog or the site will take too long to load, so you’ll have to check on facebook for those photos. Ill try and get that figured out soon.

Picked up full size section drawings from the printers this week, so we’ll be cutting out bulkheads next week. And we would like to welcome some new sponsors. Industrial Plastics has offered us some great deals and Red Roaster Coffee Will be supplying us with that extra edge.

Just heard Back from Ecopoxy www.ecopoxy.com ,and they’ve offered to supply all the epoxy I estimate we’ll need for the job. Pretty Exciting news.  The epoxy portion of a project like this accounts for the majority of its carbon footprint . Ecopoxy claims its products to be nearly carbon neutral. So what happens when I use it to build something with carbon fiber? Am I sequestering carbon? Are we carbon negative? 🙂 Get in touch, I’d love to know the truth.

So I’ve been writing up a storm lately. Website content, sponsor letters, contact leads and emails.

Theres a peanut/soy based epoxy manufacturer, www.ecopoxy.com, who is interested in contributing something.

A drysuit manufacturer, www.oceanrodeo.com  who has offered us a great deal on three new suits. Cant afford them before the boats built, but maybe if we can rustle up some cash sponsors….? Sure would be a lot safer and warmer with them.

Our designer of course, www.tadroberts.ca, who has put in a lot of time already, designing what I think is a winning boat.

Industrial plastics www.goindustrial.ca wants to support us with building materials. Not sure how much yet , but were gonna need a bunch of carbon fibre and kevlar if this boats gonna outsail those multihulls.

Still waiting to hear back from a lot of people, but I just sent the first letters out on Thursday. If anyone reading this knows of anyone who might be interested in promoting their company through this event, get in touch. We’re still looking.

….and in other news the centerline web is now glued to the first plank. This vessel now has three dimensional form. And it looks fast. We’re planning on getting the bulkheads cut out this week, so our crew of volunteers can help us glue them to the backbone next weekend.
